If you live in Leon County and were affected by the May 10 severe storms and tornadoes, FEMA may be able to help with temporary housing expenses, basic home repairs or other essential disaster-related needs that are not covered by insurance.

If your home was damaged by the South Fork and Salt Fires and floods, but you can safely live in it, FEMA may be able to provide up to $300 in one-time financial assistance to help with cleanup. This assistance is available to eligible homeowners and renters.

FEMA Individual Assistance helps disaster survivors begin recovery by providing grants for basic, critical needs. FEMA assistance is not a substitute for insurance, nor can it duplicate other sources of assistance.

Debris removal from private property is your responsibility as the property owner and is usually ineligible for reimbursement under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.

Applicants who disagree with FEMA’s decision on the amount of assistance awarded may submit an appeal letter and supporting documents.

Iowans who lost access to water through a private well or damaged septic system as a result of the severe weather and flooding on June 16 and continuing may be eligible for FEMA assistance.
